Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Which of these world famous structures is the oldest?"
The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena. Construction began in 447 BC during the height of the ancient Greek Empire. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered the zenith of the Doric order. The temple sits high atop a compound of temples known as the Acropolis of Athens. Throughout the centuries, the Parthenon withstood earthquakes, fire, wars, explosions and looting yet remains, although battered, a powerful symbol of Ancient Greece, Athenian democracy and Western civilization.
