Venus is often called Earth's "sister planet" because of their similar size, mass, proximity to the Sun, and bulk composition. However, our neighboring planet Venus spins in the opposite direction from most other planets, so that on Venus, the sun rises in the west. Venus is the only planet that rotates around the sun in a clockwise pathway. All planets, when observed from the North Pole are seen to be rotating around the sun in an anti-clockwise direction on their elliptical orbits. Venus rotates backwards compared to the other planets, likely due to an early asteroid hit which disturbed its original rotation.
