Jesse and Willy became good friends, and Jesse's job became to train and play with Willy. When Jesse learned that the park's owner wanted Willy dead to collect insurance money, Jesse and his friend, a Native man named Randolph, planned to set Willy free and reunite him with his family, who could be heard calling to Willy from the ocean. Willy was almost free when the park's owner and a group of whalers caught up with them, but Jesse, using a training command, helped Willy to jump over a wall of rocks, and Willy was freed.
