...1. George 2. Louis 3. Thomas 4. Hugh Dewey was hired as a special prosecutor in New York and was successful in convicting several high profile criminals. Later he became Governor of New York. In both 1944 and 1948 he lost bids for presidency on the Republican ticket; first to Franklin Roosevelt as the nation chose not the change leadership in the midst of World War Two and again in an upset win by Harry Truman. Dewey was in the more liberal wing of the party and was not popular with more conservative leaders such as Robert Taft.
