...To find your philtrum, you'll need to look at your upper lip. The indent just above the upper lip, to be exact. This feature is a vestigial reminder of how our faces came together in the womb. As we develop, the two sides of our face grow at different rates, finally coming together in the center to form the philtrum. When the two sides do not come together correctly, the result is a cleft palate. It is seen in about one out of every 750 births.
