Like humans, they possess four fingers and an opposable thumb on each hand, but they also possess four toes and an opposable big toe on each foot. This gives the orangutan tremendous flexibility for feeding, tree climbing and movement. As the orangutan spends so much time in trees or travelling from tree to tree, their arms have developed over time into strong, muscular limbs and have lengthened compared to their legs. They do not, however, possess a tail.
