The film sparked off the idea for a similarly themed TV show which eventually became the Emmy award winning show "Lost". Tom Hanks was nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in "Cast Away" but lost out to Russell Crowe ("Gladiator"). Hanks directed his first film, "That Thing You Do!" in 1996, a film he also wrote and starred in. The plot centred around a rock band which only managed to produce one hit.
