On this day in 1706, Benjamin Franklin was born. Franklin did a lot of things in his 84 years on this planet—inventing bifocals, the Franklin stove, the lightening rod, and, oh yeah, helping to create the United States. In his day, Benjamin Franklin was Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, Mark Zuckerberg, and Henry Ford, all rolled into one. His inventions were practical and designed to make everyday life easier. Although he didn’t patent any of his inventions, we still make use of many of them today. He considered his inventions a gift to the public.
