...Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan formed an instrumental group, The Crossfires, in 1963. As a result of the British Invasion, they changed their style and name the following year. The misspelling of "Tyrtles", inspired by The Byrds and The Beatles, didn't last long. Their first big hit was in 1965; it was a cover of Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe".
