...1. stomach 2. underarm 3. head 4. neck The thyroid is an endocrine gland located in the front of the neck, situated against the larynx and trachea. It is the largest gland in the neck, and it secretes hormones needed for growth and development, and regulates the body's metabolism. Similar in shape to a butterfly, the thyroid is comprised of two lobes connected in the gland's lower half by the thyroid isthmus. Flexible yet strong, the neck supports the head and protects the neural pathways between the brain and the body. In addition to the thyroid, the neck also houses the hyoid bone, the Adam's apple (thyroid cartilage), cricoid cartilage, the external carotid artery and trachea, and several other structures.

The reef has the Solomon Islands to the northeast, Papua New Guinea to the north, the Tasman Sea to the south and Queensland to the west. There are whales, dolphins and porpoises in the reef. There are sea turtles, dugongs, saltwater crocodiles, stingrays, skates, chimeras, giant clams, mollusks and so much more. There are more than two hundred species of birds that come here to roost, nest and dine. There are many varieties of sea snakes and fish. The Great Barrier Reef is a beautiful natural wonder which is important to the economy of Australia, providing food and jobs that support things like agriculture and tourism. Rainbow Reef is just off the coast of Taveuni Island, Fiji. This reef is made of white, luminescent coral. One can take the opportunity to observe the Blue Ribbon Eel, white-tip reef sharks, leopard sharks and barracudas here. Cozumel is just off the Yucatan Peninsula and was discovered by Jacques Cousteau in 1959. It is a beautiful coral reef and houses a large variety of tropical fish, one being the Splendid Toadfish, which is found nowhere else in the world. Andros is in the Bahamas and is where the third largest barrier reef in the world is. The Andros Reef is approximately one hundred and forty miles long.
