...For a while, the U.S. Treasury printed $500 bills that featured the 25th President. William McKinley's portrait graced the 1928 green seal $500 bill. McKinley isn't remembered for any great achievements while in office. He is most often remembered because of the way he died. McKinley suffered an assassination attempt at the Pan-American Exposition in 1901. The president died eight days later from gangrene. His vice president, Theodore Roosevelt, replaced him in the Oval Office. The last $500 bills issued were Federal Reserve Notes in 1934. Source: Content.Time.com
