...When you think of Latvia, you probably don’t think of warm island breezes and crystal clear water. But before the island of Tobago was ever ruled by the French or English, it was part of a small European country formerly known as Duchy of Courland— today known as Latvia. In 1654 the Duke of Courland, Duke Jacob, sailed to the small island, colonized it and made it a central hub of European trade. Today, the island is dual nation (Trinidad and Tobago) known for its elaborate Carnival celebrations.
