Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Whose famous last words were, “Pardon me sir, I meant not to do it”?"
Marie Antoinette is one of the most famous women in history and the face of royal decadence that spawned the French Revolution. She is often credited with the famous quote "Let them eat cake," although there is no evidence she actually said it. On this day in 1793, Marie Antoinette was beheaded during the French Revolution. Convicted by the Revolutionary Tribunal of high treason, the former queen was executed. Her last words were "Pardon me, sir, I meant not to do it", an apology to her executioner for accidentally stepping on his toes while on her way to the guillotine. She was 37 years old.
