Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Around which planet does Ganymede orbit?"
Ganymede was one of the first moons discovered orbiting a planet other than Earth. Galileo Galilei made the discovery in 1610. Ganymede, along with the moons Io, Europa and Calisto, are collectively known as the Galilean Moons. Ganymede is the largest natural satellite in our solar system. If it did not orbit Jupiter, it could easily claim the title of "planet." Ganymede is larger than planet Mercury and dwarf planet Pluto. A thick layer of ice covers Ganymede, but scientists believe it may harbor a salty ocean underneath. The European Space Agency hopes to launch a mission to one of Jupiter's icy Galilean Moons by 2030. Source: Space.com
