Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Which of these animals has only one ear?"
Until relatively recently, it was believed that praying mantises were unable to hear as their ears couldn't be found. However, it turned out that scientists were looking in the wrong place! The praying mantis actually has one single ear and it is located right in the middle of its chest. Despite having one ear, its ability to hear sounds is well beyond that of a human, although they cannot discriminate the direction of a sound, nor its frequency. They are the only animal in the world that is known to have just one ear.

Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Which artist famously cut off his left ear?"
On this day in 1888, Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, suffering from severe depression, cut off the lower part of his left ear with a razor. He allegedly wrapped up the ear and gave it to a prostitute at a nearby brothel before returning home and collapsing. He was found unconscious the next day by the police and taken to hospital. Vincent van Gogh died aged 37 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Imagine how many kernels are found in an acre of corn Why is it an ear of corn? “Ear" comes from the ancient word “ahs," which meant “husk of corn." In English, sometimes the ear also is referred to as a “cob" or a “pole." The ear is the spiked part of the corn plant that contains kernels.
