...The United States presidential election of 1984 was between the incumbent President Ronald Reagan, the Republican candidate, and former Vice President Walter Mondale, the Democratic candidate. Mondale chose Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro of New York as his running mate, making Ferraro the first woman to serve on either major party's national ticket. Reagan defeated Mondale in a landslide and carried 49 of the 50 states. Reagan also won the highest number of electoral votes of any president thus far.
