The Dalai Lama has spent his life working for the benefit of humanity in the tradition of Bodhisattva. He is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and has worked throughout his life for the liberation of Tibet. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his nonviolent efforts to affect the liberation of Tibet from communist China. His message to the world has always focused on peace, compassion for people all across the world, and a need for understanding of and respect for different faiths of the world.
