Best Interview Example

  • Why Management?

Goal of my life is to achieve the best in the field I choose for myself.

  • After 10th class the best option in front of me was to get into science stream and appear for IIT. I prepared hard and got Civil Engg. at Roorkee.
  • During my stay at Roorkee, I was not just involved in my studies but in various other activities also. That’s why not only I got best technical education but also many other skills through various experiences in institute. Like:

  • Managerial skills
Coordinator technical committee, Cognizance’03
Active participation in AMPRECOM 2002
  • Entrepreneurship skills
  • Ability to initiate
Institutes first e- magazine www.thomso.net
Organized first online Civil Engg. Quiz during cognizance’03
Incunebula, the entrepreneurship cell. Entirely new concept of encouraging new ideas.
  • Leadership quality
Group leader of class for 2 survey camps as a part of curriculum
  • Innovation
Application of ANN, entirely new concept in conventional fields of Hydraulics and transportation
  • Communication skills
2 technical paper presented in International level Technical Festival at IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee
  • Goal oriented performance
Summer project in entirely new field and achieved goal well before time.
  • Discipline and sincerity
One year term at NCC
  • Adventure/ risk
Active Member of HEC

And obviously problem solving skills and tackling different situations through various experiences during graduation.
Ultimately I realized that I can utilize what Roorkee has given me well in the field of management
  • Moreover from the inputs of my seniors and the trend in today’s corporate world, I realized that merely having excellence in technical education is not sufficient to achieve the best. I may be at the top at some point of time but it will take much time and far more efforts.
  • So with management, I want to get a tool with which I can take better decisions and can climb up the hierarchy in shorter duration and in a much better way.
  • Probably I don’t want to join an organization, gain experience from my failures and then get success.
  • The combination of technical knowledge and managerial skills will only be helping me towards getting my goal- to achieve the best.

  • Something about myself

  • Myself Aishwarya Pratap Singh. I am Doing B. Tech. in Civil Engg. from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.
  • I belong to a middle class family of Jaipur. My father is a Government Employee and my mother is a housewife. All my 4 sisters and one brother are in govt. service.
  • My family values drive me towards one goal only- to be the best in the field I choose for myself And that’s the source of motivation for me. I want to serve them for all that they have done for me.
  • Well as far as Aishwarya is concerned, my name basically means prosperity but if I have to explain myself in a word I would rather choose- Determinant.
  • My strength lies in – Determination, keen learning ability, ability to take initiatives and sincerity.
  • When I set a goal for myself, I commit myself to get that goal only- nothing less than that no matter how hard I have to work for it but I can’t take rest unless I get it.
    • I aimed for IIT at the starting of 11th class, worked hard for it and finally got one of the best institutes of India.
    • I started preparing for CAT and got call from best institutes like yours.

In due course of time I developed the habit of initiating everywhere- be as a leader of group during survey camp at Haridwar or applying an entirely new concept of ANN in the field of Civil Engg.
  • Apart from it I always try to remain sincere and faithful towards the target I have been given to complete.
  • But then there are something which I don’t like about myself-
    • When I take a job, I forget everything around and get too much focused on that job only, hardly thinking about anything else in this world. And that cost me many times. But after the last sem when I got 5.43 just because I was more concerned about CAT, I am changing myself. In this sem I have ensured that I also do work hard for my acads apart from appearing in interviews.
    • I am excessively emotional. Personal relations do matters for me a lot. But I have drawn a clear line between my personal life and professional life and ensured that they don’t affect each other in any way.

  • In spite of all this, I know that I have a tool with which I can turn everything around- determination.
  • Apart from studies, I have interest in philately. In my leisure time I collect stamps and information about them. I also got first prize in philately quiz during my graduation time.

  • Describe a situation when u had to compromise with your morals

  • During Cognizance’03, the technical festival of IIT Roorkee, I was organizing online Civil Engineering quiz for my department.
  • As Roorkee is quite a small city, getting sponsorship for the event is very difficult.
  • I tried everywhere but I couldn’t convince anyone to sponsor my event.
  • One day when I was talking to my uncle about it, he offered me to sponsor the event if I place an ad of Cigarette Company of which he was the dealer.
  • I denied the offer and searched for other options but when it became almost impossible for me to arrange funds; I had to accept the offer.
  • I think it was a sort of compromise on my part as I am strongly against cigarette smoking and also it is banned in our institute.
  • Cigarette smoking can never be beneficial and promoting it would have been the last thing I wanted to do but I had to.

  • My goal in life

To achieve the best in the field I choose for myself.

Short Term goal:

I want to get excellence in the field of management thru education from institute and then join an organization which can not only give me enough opportunities to grow but also job satisfaction.

Long Term goal:

Through performance oriented growth, I want to climb up in hierarchy in the organization and achieve a key position where I can contribute effectively towards its growth through my decisions which are effectively based on the experience of past years as well as my management education.

  • Career goals
“The goal of my life is to be the best in the field I choose for myself.
That’s why I opted for getting into IIT and get excellence in the technical field. But I am also aware that there is a ceiling attached to a technical person and he cant rise after a certain level up in the hierarchy. One needs to have the knowledge of management and ability to take decisions thinking beyond the obvious technical complications.
So with specialization in management, I want to get a tool such that I can take flexible decisions in a broader perspective. I will try to utilize the real time experiences and study of management.
And then join an organization which prefers performance oriented growth. Climbing up the ladder like this, I want to hold a position where I get the freedom of utilizing my skills towards its development and get the satisfaction of getting my goal.”

IIM Ahmedabad interview form questions

  • Briefly describe an incident in which you faced a problem, explaining it's nature it's importance to you and the manner in which you dealt with it.

During my 2nd year summer vacations, I took up a project along with my friend. It dealt with application of artificial neural network in pollutant flow. We had to develop a model in programming platform MATLAB using ANN. Basically; we wanted to explore the possibilities of software application in Civil Engg.
The concept was relatively new and unexplored for research scholars and faculty of our department. So we didn’t get much help from them regarding practical application. There was no interface available to convert C++ to MATLAB. Moreover, our project guide was busy preparing for an international seminar. So we were left demanding his attention.
Things got further complicated when my partner met with an accident midway through the project. Now, not only I had to work single handedly for the project but I also had to take care of him.

But, I didn’t give up and kept on working on different options. I e-mailed a number of persons related to ANN around the world, explored online help for it, asked my seniors for help. Meanwhile, I also kept on exploring MATLAB on my own.
With my hard work of 15 days, things started to change positively. I mastered MATLAB through inbuilt help and decoded a similar module. Also with proper care, my friend recovered and started working for the project.
We took 7 more days to form the model which was at least 3 times more accurate than the existing models. The model was well accepted and appreciated during presentations at IIT Roorkee and IIT Madras.
The project was not compulsory for us to be done. But it was my keep interest in the subject and determination to complete the work taken that motivated me to take the best out of me.

  • Strength and weaknesses that you experienced during your academic career.

My strength lies in determination. If I dream of something, I can work hard up to any level to get that goal and nothing below it satisfies me. I am keen learner and I try to extract motivation from each and every aspect of life. Also I am good at initiating the work. Sincerity and faithfulness towards the job is my biggest priority.
My biggest weakness is that when I aim for anything, I work for it only and forget everything around. Also, I am a bit emotional and personal relations do matters for me a lot. But I have ensured that they never affect my professional life. And in the end, I am imperfect. I can do the work up to my maximum potential but still thinks that it could have been done in a much better way.

  • Your interest, pursuits and accomplishments.

Life at Roorkee created my interest in coordinating events and managing things. I had active involvement in AMPRECOM and I was the coordinator of technical committee during Cognizance. I was the group leader for 2 survey camps at Haridwar as a part of our curriculum. Recently we have launched entrepreneurship cell IncuNebula at IIT Roorkee for projecting it as an alternate career option.

  • Why management?
I always aimed to be the best in my field. That’s why I opted for IIT. My stay at Roorkee gave me technical excellence and also problem solving skills and overall personality development.
With management degree, I will be at helm of affairs right from the beginning of my career. Also management will bring rationality in my decisions and I will be able to rise to the top of hierarchy.
  • Alternate career option

I developed inclination towards programming while working on my project of software application in Civil Engg. This makes me comfortable with a career in software Engg. Probably this option will have a larger gestation period but I will be able to perform well.
