...While serving as a nurse’s aid during World War I in Toronto, Canada, Earhart had the opportunity to see her first flying exhibition in 1918. After taking great interest in the show, she took her first flight in 1920 with famous World War I pilot Frank Hawk. She was officially hooked, and she started flying lessons in January of 1921. In 1932, she became the first woman (and second person ever) to fly solo and nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. Her 1937 disappearance is still the subject of much speculation.
