Step 1 : Introduction to the question " What was the name of the backup band accompanying the artist Prince? "
...
The American band "The Revolution" was formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1979 by the music artist Prince. It served as his live band and later as his studio backup band. The band's sound incorporated rock, pop, R&B, funk, new wave, and psychedelic elements. Along with Prince's other projects, the Revolution helped create the Minneapolis sound. By the time of their 1986 breakup, the Revolution had backed Prince on two studio albums, two soundtracks, and two videos.
With its studio album debut "1999" (1982), The Revolution rose to international fame with the release of "Purple Rain" (1984), which reached No. 1 on the "Billboard" 200 and became certified 13× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). "The Revolution" next achieved its second No. 1 "Billboard" 200 album with "Around the World in a Day" in 1985. They charted six top 10 singles on the "Billboard" Hot 100 chart, including three No. 1 songs: "Let's Go Crazy", "When Doves Cry", and "Kiss".
When Prince formed his backing band, he created a multi-racial musical ensemble with both male and female performers. From 1982—1983, when the band was known as The Revolution, it consisted of: Prince on lead vocals, guitar, and piano; Dez Dickerson on guitar; Brown Mark on bass; Bobby Z. on drums and percussion; Lisa Coleman on keyboards and piano; Matt Fink on keyboards; and "JJ" (Jill Jones) on vocals.
