Pekingese - Pekingese were bred to be companion dogs for the Chinese Imperial family. The small dogs, which resemble tiny lions, were considered sacred in ancient China. When British forces raided the Chinese Imperial Palace in 1860, they took some of the dogs back with them to England, introducing the breed to the West.
