Step 2 : Answer to the question "Silkworms primarily feed on what type of tree?"

Mulberry - Silkworms, the larvae of the silk moth, feed exclusively on the leaves of mulberry trees and a few related species. They are attracted to a compound produced by the leaves called cis-jasmone. Silk moths were domesticated in China some 5,000 years ago from a wild species and more than 1,000 strains now exist in captivity. Over generations, the species were selectively bred to efficiently produce massive amounts of silk and as a result, the larvae are able to survive hugely crowded conditions and the adults can no longer fly. Silk fibers are unraveled from the cocoons formed by the larvae when they are ready to metamorphose into their adult forms and are used to make textiles and thread — both of which are incredibly strong and durable. Scientists have been able to increase the strength of these fibers by feeding silkworms nanoparticles, which are then integrated into the silk fibers produced by their specialized glands.:
