Memphis - The city of Memphis, Tennessee, was named after the capital of ancient Egypt, so it has always had an affinity for pyramids. In 1989, the city decided to build a steel pyramid on the banks of the Mississippi River. But it wasn’t quite the grand tourist attraction the city had envisioned, and on opening night in 1991, the bathrooms backed up and flooded the arena. The 321-foot-tall building opened as a basketball arena, and it also hosted concerts and boxing fights, but the pyramid fell out of use when a more modern sports arena opened in 2004. It was closed for several years, but in 2006, sporting goods chain Bass Pro Shops announced plans to build its largest store in Memphis. In 2015, the pyramid reopened with a 10,000-gallon catfish aquarium and a glass-walled elevator to the 32nd-floor observation deck.:
