Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which city is fortified by these medieval walls?"
Ávila, Spain - The Spanish city of Ávila is regarded as one of the best-preserved walled cities in Europe. Surrounded by mountains, the city lies on a plateau that rises out of a plain, and, encompassing the city is a nearly entirely intact 8,000-foot-long wall. Once part of the Roman Empire, the city fell to Arab and Berber invaders in the early sixth century BCE. It later returned to the Christian Iberian Kingdom under King Alfonso VI of León and Castile in the late 11th century. This is when the much-needed wall was erected to prevent further attacks on Ávila. The stone and granite wall was stacked 40 feet tall and 10 feet thick, capped with a battlement rampart walk and 88 defensive towers, and surrounded by a moat. No doubt, all of this was effective in warding off invaders. The walled city’s Old Town was designated as an official UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and its walls are lit at night, creating the “largest fully illuminated monument in the world.”:
