Hyderabad, India - This three-story “fish out of water” is a rare example of a government building with a sense of humor. This is the home of India’s National Fisheries Development Board in the city of Hyderabad and a key example of mimetic architecture, in which a building’s structure mimics its function. The “Fish Building” was designed by the Central Public Works Department and completed in 2012. The building was partly inspired by famous architect Frank Gehry’s “El Peix,” an abstract golden sculpture in Barcelona named “The Fish.” But the Fish Building in Hyderabad is quite obvious in its fishiness — complete with blue glass eyes and a hollow mouth.:
