Step 2 : Answer to the question "The pirate Captain Kidd buried treasure in which U.S. state?"

New York - The name of Captain Kidd has become synonymous with the idea of the swashbuckling pirate, and rumors of lost treasure are plentiful. One true story: Captain William Kidd was given a royal commission in 1695 to sail on behalf of Great Britain and capture enemy pirates. Kidd, unsuccessful at his lawful task, turned to piracy himself. In 1699 he was charged with piracy and of the murder of his gunner, William Moore. The pirate landed at Gardiners Island, off the coast of Long Island, before going to plead his case to the colonial governor of New York. Captain Kidd was hanged for his crimes, but his story gained a reputation of romance, intrigue, and buried treasure. After his death, chests of gold and silver were quickly recovered from the Gardiner family, and no more hidden riches have ever been found.:
