After founding the Toronto Electric Light Company which lit up the Toronto skyline, Sir Henry Mill Pellatt used his fortune to purchase numerous railroads and became chairman of nearly two dozen companies. His multi-million dollar fortune allowed him to build his dream château known as Casa Loma. Pellatt spent all of his money on the extravagant 98-room mansion, but later lost his fortune when electricity became publicly owned and World War I caused an economic downturn. In response to his misfortune, Pellatt was forced to sell everything off at a fraction of the cost, including his dream palace and all that was in it. Casa Loma is presently owned by the city of Toronto and welcomes visitors to its museum, which still includes the chandelier-filled Great Hall, a marble-floored conservatory, and a library that holds 10,000 books.:
