Georgia - Franklin Roosevelt built the “Little White House” shortly before he moved into the big White House. In 1921, Roosevelt was paralyzed from the waist down after a battle with polio. A friend recommended visiting the therapeutic waters of Warm Springs, Georgia, and Roosevelt liked it so much he visited nearly every year after. In 1927, Roosevelt started the Warm Springs Foundation, dedicated to the treatment of polio, which eventually led to creation of the March of Dimes. The Little White House is a modest six-room cottage — no Oval Office here — and remains as it was when Roosevelt died in 1945.:
