Step 2 : Answer to the question "What is the only U.S. state whose name ends with its own postal abbreviation?"

Kentucky - Kentucky's postal code abbreviation is KY, which is a combination of both its first and last letters and its last two letters. It's the only state for which that's the case — of the other states named here, Illinois' postal code is IL, Arkansas' is AR, and Alaska's is AK. The two-letter abbreviations have been in use since 1963, when the Post Office Department introduced five-digit zip codes and needed a way to shorten state names to accommodate the extra characters. (According to the USPS website, equipment at the time could only fit 23 characters in the bottom line of an address.) Prior to 1963, the USPS preferred state names to be written out in full, although some unofficially recognized abbreviations had been in use since 1831. Only one abbreviation has been changed since the two-letter codes were introduced in 1963: Nebraska was changed from NB to NE in 1969, to avoid confusion with New Brunswick in Canada.:
