Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which country is home to a major lake that is half fresh water and half salt water?"

Kazakhstan - Kazakhstan’s Lake Balkhash is the 15th-largest lake in the world and the third-largest in Asia, but unlike most other lakes, it has both salty and fresh water. In the center of the lake is the Sarimsak Peninsula, which divides it into two separate hydrologic parts: the western freshwater portion and the eastern salty part. The Ile River flows into the western part of the lake, responsible for nearly 80% of Balkhash's incoming water. That creates a continuous flow of water from the western to the eastern section, but as fresh water evaporates during its course, the lake's water becomes saltier. The salinity in the east is also higher because that is where the lake is deepest. Salt water is denser than fresh water, so it sinks and becomes more concentrated in the lowest parts of Lake Balkhash.:
