Harry S. Truman - On April 25, 1947, Harry Truman officially opened the two-lane bowling alley at the White House. A group of Truman's fellow Missourians funded the construction of the lanes as a 63rd birthday present to the 33rd President, who hadn't bowled since his teenage years. To warm up the lanes, Truman tossed the first ball, gamely knocking over seven pins. Though he didn't end up using the alley much, other White House staffers frequented the spot until Dwight Eisenhower converted it into a mimeograph room in 1955.:
