Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which tribe still lives within the rims of the Grand Canyon?"
Havasupai Tribe - Considered the “guardians of the Grand Canyon,” the Havasupai are just one of eleven Native American tribes associated with Grand Canyon National Park. One thing that sets the Havasupai apart is that they’re the only tribe still living within the rim’s walls. According to Havasupai councilwoman Ophelia Watahomigie-Corliss, the tribe lost a lot of migratory land when the national park was formed in 1919. In the ‘70s, some of that land was returned, as the western edge of the reservation was extended in a congressional bill. Watahomigie-Corliss credits the tribe’s collaborative partnership with Grand Canyon National Park for their friendly relations today, noting that the land is sacred to the Havasupai, and they live there to protect and respect it.:
