San Diego - In 1919, a new railway route between San Diego and the city of El Centro, California, was forged against all odds. When it was first conceived, the route was quickly dubbed the “Impossible Railroad” due to the sheer amount of natural obstacles along the journey. Seventeen tunnels and 14 trestle bridges were built. Most notably of them all was the Goat Canyon Trestle in Carrizo Gorge. Today, this wooden bridge is still standing but hasn't been used since 2008. However, the bridge has also had other periods of dormancy in its past and may very well have trains riding its rails again in the future!:
