Hudson Bay, Canada - A strange phenomenon occurs in the Hudson Bay Area of Canada. As was first discovered in the 1960s, the region seems to be “missing” gravity. Ever since the discovery, scientists have been studying exactly why the region has a lower gravity field than the rest of the world. There are two prevailing theories about the gravitational anomaly. The first relates to magma creating convection currents deep below the Earth’s surface, which can drag the continental plates down and thus decrease the mass and gravity in the region. The second theory suggests that the Laurentide Ice Sheet that once existed in Hudson Bay created a deep indentation in the Earth after melting 10,000 years ago, resulting in less mass — and less gravity — in the indentation. :
