Japan - Stretching for 22 glorious miles, the Cedar Avenue of Nikko, Japan, is the world's longest tree-lined avenue, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The Japanese cedar trees here were planted between 1628 and 1648, and more than 13,500 of them remain today. The trees were planted as a tribute to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shÅgun of the Tokugawa Shogunate of Japan, which ruled Japan from 1603 to 1868. Ieyasu was one of the "Great Unifiers" of Japan, credited with help to unify the country. A shrine to Ieyasu is located in the same city of Nikko. :
