The latter was completed in 1926 after citizens of Kansas City raised funds to build the 217-foot-tall war monument. But after years of deterioration, the Liberty Memorial closed in 1994. Eventually, the memorial was repaired, and an 80,000-square-foot World War I Museum was added to the site. The museum and the Edward Jones Research Center showcases thousands of objects and documents related to the Great War. :
