The temple is located in Kazan, Russia, the capital of Tatarstan Republic, which prides itself on being a melting pot of cultures. The artist responsible for it, Ildar Khanov, believed that all religions were created equal and wanted to bring them together under one roof. He originally planned to build 16 cupolas, each representing one of the major world religions, but he passed away in 2013. So far, 12 have been finished, and the buildings are covered with religious symbols and messages written in many languages. A sign at the temple requests donations “for eternal construction,” so perhaps there is room for more than 16 religions at the temple.:
