Step 1 : Introduction to the question " What medicinal properties does licorice have? "
...
Liquorice (British English) or licorice (American English) is the common name of Glycyrrhiza glabra, a flowering plant of the bean family Fabaceae, from the root of which a sweet, aromatic flavouring can be extracted.
For thousands of years G. glabra has been used for medicinal purposes including indigestion and stomach inflammation. Some other medicinal purposes are cough suppression, ulcer treatment, and use as a laxative. Also, salts of GZA can be used in many products as sweeteners and aromatizers.
It has been reported that glabridin has a strong antioxidant activity from the main isoflavonoid compounds of the plant. It was proved that the antioxidant effect of licorice flavonoids is 100-fold greater than that of E vitamin.
