Seattle, Washington - If you happen to cross under Seattle’s Aurora Bridge, you'll find an unexpected sight lurking in the shadows: a menacing 18-foot-tall troll crushing a Volkswagen in its grip. The Fremont Troll has stood under the city bridge for more than three decades, but rather than scaring away residents and visitors, it has become a beloved figure in the local community and a popular tourist attraction. Designed by sculptor Steve Badanes, the troll was born out of an 1989 neighborhood art competition to rehabilitate the area around the bridge. The artist said the idea for the troll came from the Norwegian folktale “Three Billy Goats Gruff,” which tells of a trio of goats that must cross a bridge guarded by a troll.:
