The story of this extraordinary man is really astonishing. Forest Frederick Edward "Tommy" Yeo-Thomas was a British Special Operations Executive at the time of WW2. He first saw action in the Polish-Soviet War of 1919–1920, fighting alongside the Poles. Captured by Soviet Russian forces, he managed to escape strangling a Soviet guard.
He spoke the English and French languages fluently and in WW2 Special Operations Executive used him as a liaison officer with the Free French intelligence agency. He was parachuted into occupied France for the first time on 25 February 1943. With Pierre Brossolette and Andre Dewavrin he created a strategy for obstructing the German occupation of France. During his missions in France, he dined with notorious Nazis, such as Klaus Barbie, to gather necessary information.
In winter 1944, Yeo-Thomas was again parachuted into France. He was betrayed to the Gestapo and subjected to brutal torture. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to escape from prison, he was moved to Buchenwald concentration camp where he organized resistance and met Squadron leader Phil Lamason, the officer in charge of 168 Allied airmen held there.
