The Leuser ecosystem on the Indonesian island of Sumatra features 6 million acres of diverse landscape — home to a number of unique species. But due to deforestation, the habitat for these animals is shrinking. This includes the critically endangered Sumatran elephant, and an estimated 80 Sumatran rhinos. About a quarter of the remaining 400 Sumatran tigers are located here, and the Sumatran orangutan population has shrunk so dramatically that they are in danger of becoming the first great ape to go extinct.:
