Susquehanna River, Pennsylvania - In 1986, a miniature replica of the Statue of Liberty mysteriously appeared in the middle of the Susquehanna River off of Route 322 near Dauphin, Pennsylvania. For decades, no one knew why Lady Liberty had suddenly appeared there, but the truth was finally revealed 25 years later. Local lawyer Gene Stlip wanted to honor the original statue’s centennial (it was erected in New York Harbor on October 28, 1886), so he used plywood and Venetian blinds to mold his version of Lady Liberty. A group of friends helped him place the replica on the river, where it became known as the Dauphin Narrows Statue of Liberty. When it was destroyed in the 1990s, the town had grown to love it so much that money was raised to resurrect it, this time making the statue taller and more durable.:
