Despite some misgivings, the network agreed to write Ball’s pregnancy into the show's plot line. In order to smooth network concerns, Ball and Arnaz hired religious authorities to evaluate episodes for anything objectionable, and acquiesced to a request from CBS that the word "pregnancy," seen as vulgar, not be used. Instead, actors danced around Lucy’s condition with words like "expecting." Despite the restrictions, the pregnancy episodes remained as funny, kind-hearted, and emotional as the rest of the show.:
