One general education requirement was missing — a term paper for his natural science class, which he completed in 2001. Additionally, he passed out of the advanced filmmaking class, receiving credit for “Schindler’s List” (1993), which earned him Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Film in 1994. The renowned director finally graduated with the Class of 2002 — cap, gown, and all. In doing so, Spielberg said he hoped to inspire young people to the importance of reaching academic goals and to thank his parents for providing him the opportunity to receive an education.:
