Sweden - What to do with all the garbage and waste material humans discard has become a massive dilemma for the environment. At least one country — Sweden — is leading the way in culling waste. Through extensive national recycling programs, Sweden has been able to lessen its waste so much that approximately 49% of household garbage is recycled. Another 50% of the country’s waste is incinerated in power plants and repurposed into energy to heat homes and power vehicles. In all, just 1% of waste ends up in landfills. That’s an impressive statistic, but still not good enough for the Swedish people — their goal is to have zero waste.:
