And on this log is a single Douglas fir tree. The log itself is a dead Douglas fir whose nutrients feed the tiny fir above water. The lone tree is seen as a metaphorical representation of nature’s rebirth, and many come to the site just to photograph the image. In fact, one photographer, Adam Gibbs, won the National History Museum of London’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year award in 2012 for snapping a photo of the fir.:
