Step 2 : Answer to the question "Where is the world's tallest monolithic statue?"

India - Towering over the town of Shravanabelagola, India, the 10th-century, 60-foot-tall granite statue of Gomateshwara is the tallest monolithic statue in the world. The statue, carved out of one granite block, was built by minister and poet, Chamundaraya. He dedicated the work to Lord Bahubali, who spent a year in immobile standing meditation in the yogic pose “kayotsarga,” according to Jainist texts. The meditation is said to have led to his liberation over human passion. Crowning the top of Vindhyagiri Hill, the statue can be seen from nearly 20 miles in every direction and is a Jainist pilgrimage site. Pilgrims attend the Mahamastakabhisheka festival every 12 years at the foot of the statue and sprinkle it with 1,008 vessels of water, before bathing it in saffron flower paste, milk, and sugarcane juice.:
