Soon after, the federal government started testing road signs in kilometers instead of miles on select highways — including Interstate 19, which links Mexico to Tucson, Arizona. Eventually, anti-metric politics won out and the movement died. But the metric road signs remained on Interstate 19, leaving it the lone U.S. highway with distances listed solely in kilometers.:
