With an incredible 275 individual cascades, it is the largest waterfall system in the world. Water flow peaks during the rainy season (November-March), when about 3.5 million gallons of water run through per second, which is enough to fill five Olympic-sized swimming pools every second. The most famous part of the falls is Garganta del Diablo (“Devil’s Throat”), which has water flowing from three sides and a 0.6-mile walkway stretching over the river to the edge of the falls. Iguazu Falls joined UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list in 1984.:
