Step 1 : Introduction to the question "In the Old Testament, what did Joseph leave in Potiphar’s wife’s hands as he fled from her advances?"
...Joseph, a man of principle, refused the advances of his master's wife. On several occasions, Mrs. Potiphar cornered him, unashamedly begging him to "lie with [her]." Throughout his years of service to the Potiphar household, he responded with integrity as he resisted the temptation. He respectfully put her in her place, reminding her of her husband’s trust in him. None of this stopped her chase, however. Although Joseph had risen to high ranking status within Potiphar's household, he was still a slave. So the cost for messing up would be high. Yet more important to Joseph was remaining an honorable man before God. When the day came that Mrs. Potiphar refused to stand down, Joseph ran out of the house, leaving his outer garment, most likely his robe, in her scorned hands. Angered by his refusal, she screamed that he had come on to her. Wickedly framed by Mrs. Potiphar, who claimed his robe as proof of his attempted crime, Joseph was thrown in prison. This imprisonment marked the next long and unjust period in the life of Joseph. However, Joseph continued to endure through it all, maintaining his integrity and allegiance to God.
